Wormwood: The Ancient Herb You’ve Probably Heard of… But May Know Very Little About

Wormwood is one of those herbs with a name that immediately makes you curious. Maybe you’ve heard of it before. Maybe you’ve seen it popping up in the wellness world or maybe this is the first time you’re really learning about it.

Either way, wormwood has a pretty fascinating story. And with the launch of our new Wormwood Power™ coming this Friday, we thought this was the perfect time to share a few things you may not know about this unique plant.

Wormwood Is Anything But New

Wormwood has been used in traditional herbal practices for centuries. Long before supplements came in capsules, powders and convenient bottles, people relied heavily on plants and herbs as part of their everyday wellness routines. Wormwood was one of those herbs.

Its botanical name is Artemisia absinthium, and it naturally grows in areas of Europe, Asia and northern Africa. One of the things wormwood is best known for is its very bitter taste, and when we say bitter, we mean bitter! That strong, distinctive bitterness is actually one of the characteristics that has made wormwood so recognizable throughout its long history.

It Has a Surprising Connection to Absinthe

Here’s a fun fact you may not know. Wormwood became well known as one of the herbs traditionally used to flavor absinthe, the famous green spirit that gained popularity in Europe during the 1800s.

That history gave wormwood a somewhat mysterious reputation and probably contributed to some of the curiosity that still surrounds it today, but there’s much more to this plant than an interesting name and colorful history.

Wormwood Is Part of a Much Bigger Plant Family

Wormwood belongs to the Artemisia family of plants, which contains hundreds of different species found throughout the world. Various Artemisia plants have been valued by different cultures for generations, making wormwood part of a much larger story of traditional botanical use.

And that’s one of the things we find so interesting about herbs like wormwood. Sometimes an ingredient that seems “new” to us isn’t new at all. We’re simply rediscovering it.

Not All Wormwood Is Exactly the Same

This is something most people probably don’t think about when they pick up an herbal supplement. Where a plant is grown, when it is harvested, how it is processed, the amount used and what it is combined with can all matter.

In other words, seeing “wormwood” on the front of a bottle doesn’t necessarily tell you the whole story. That’s something Lindsey talks about all the time when it comes to formulation.

The ingredient matters. The quality matters. The amount matters. And what you combine it with matters.

A thoughtful formula is about much more than putting a popular ingredient into a capsule.

So Why Has Wormwood Been Used for So Long?

Historically, wormwood has been valued in traditional herbal practices, particularly in connection with digestive and general wellness traditions. Today, there continues to be interest in wormwood and the naturally occurring plant compounds it contains.

You’ll also find plenty of bold claims about wormwood online. That’s where we think education matters. Traditional use is fascinating, and emerging research is exciting, but neither means an herb should suddenly be treated like a miracle ingredient.

That’s never how we approach supplementation at All-In Nutritionals. We want to understand what an ingredient is, where it came from, how it has traditionally been used and why it deserves a place in a thoughtfully designed formula.

Why Are People Interested in Ancient Herbs Today?

This may be the part that makes wormwood especially interesting.

We live very differently than people did hundreds of years ago. Our diets have changed. Our food supply has changed. Our environments have changed, and many of us simply don’tconsume the variety of plants and botanicals that were once a normal part of everyday life.

At the same time, more people are becoming intentional about their health. They’re thinking about what they eat, exercising, drinking more water, prioritizing sleep, reading labels and becoming more thoughtful about the supplements they choose to incorporate into their routines.

Instead of waiting until something feels wrong to start thinking about their health, they’re asking a different question:

What can I do consistently to support my body and overall wellness?

That’s where we believe thoughtfully formulated supplementation can fit. Not as a magic pill or a quick fix, and certainly not as a replacement for healthy habits, but as another tool in your daily wellness toolbox.

Ancient Herb. Modern Formula.

And that brings us to why we’re talking about wormwood this week.

This Friday, we’re launching Wormwood Power Plus™. 🌿

While wormwood may be the name on the front of the bottle, it’s not the only ingredient inside. That’s important to us.

We didn’t want to simply put wormwood in a capsule and call it a day. We wanted to build a thoughtful formula around this time-honored botanical using carefully selected complementary ingredients.

Because that’s how we formulate at All-In Nutritionals. We don’t chase trends. We don’t believe more is always better, and we don’t believe one ingredient is the answer to everything. We believe in understanding ingredients, using them intentionally and looking at the formula as a whole.

If you’re already intentional about your nutrition, movement, hydration, sleep and supplementation, Wormwood Power Plus™ is one more formula you’ll want to learn about.

Ancient botanical wisdom. Modern formulation. Purposefully formulated. Powerfully All-In.

Wormwood Power Plus™ launches this Friday. Stay tuned. 🌿
